Sometimes no matter how hard you work or how much of a great job you do, you can feel like you are never getting the credit you deserve or that it simply feels like you are invisible to the people higher up. As harsh as it is, sometimes doing a good job and working hard is not enough to get noticed and get ahead at work. That is why today we are looking at ways that you can stand out from the crowd and get the credit you deserve and hopefully this will help get you more respect and possible a promotion!
Get Noticed At Work : Do A Good Job And Take Credit For It
The first thing that you need to make sure you are doing is a great job. Even if you are shy and do not like talking yourself up, make sure that you are willing to stand up and take credit for the amazing work that you have done. Because trust me when I tell you this. In a work environment if you do not take credit for the good work you have done, you can bet your butt that someone else will!
Tell Your Boss About What You Have Done!
Now if you are shy this one can be tough, but it also can be the boost that your work life needs. If you have done a great job then do not just sit there and wait for your boss to come to you. Send them an email telling them about the work you have done, how you enjoyed it and how it brought the best out of you and that you would like the opportunity to do something similar or even take on something with more responsibility. This will make them take more notice of not only what you did, take notice of you as a person also. If you cannot email then go and talk to them directly!
Be Friendly With Them
Now I am not saying that you need to be kissing their butts. But it does not hurt talk about things that are outside of work. For example if they have kids just a casual, “hey how is little Bobby doing”, or if you know they are into the same TV show as you ,or like the same kind of music, then talk about that. The key here is to just talk to them casually as if they are a regular Joe and not your boss.
Help Others At Work
One way to not only be seen in a positive light by not only those above you, but by your peers as well is to take an interest in what they are doing at work and also by offering a little help as well. Helping others as well as doing your own job well shows that you can clearly multitask and that you can work well with others also. Helping others also ensures that you are building stronger relationships with your colleagues, which makes work a more enjoyable place to be and if you are happy in your work then people tend to notice that.
I cannot stress this one enough. While you will want to try and be a little more confident, you have to make sure that you are being yourself. While some phony people can get ahead, the fact is for the most part, phony people are easily found out and no one likes to be around them. In trying to get ahead at work make sure you stay true to yourself and that you are not changing who you are as a person just to get ahead.
