I love to eat out, do it with my wife and kids or with friends. There is just something fun about sitting round a table, getting your food made and brought to you and enjoying good company. The problem with eating out is that really while you can pick what you want and while you may think you are picking a nice and healthy option. You never really know if this food you have ordered is loaded up with salt and god knows what else. If you love to eat out like I do then here are some things to think about next time you go out with friends or family.
Term Of Healthy Eating : Know What Food Is Meant For A Group
Food that is followed by terms such as platter and sampler are never really intended for just one person and they should only be ordered if you intended to share the food with a couple of other people. I will admit that I am guilty as charged when it comes to ordering a sea food platter and then eating it all by myself! While it was tasty have really eaten enough food for three people! How insane is that? When we eat out we have a tendency to vastly overeat and this is a great example of a way we do it. I used to also be guilty of ordering “fries for the table” but then I would proceed to eat the whole bowl. I would highly recommend staying away from any food that comes in a bowl and it’s just overflowing. This kind of thing is fine for a group, but bot for just one person.
Term Of Healthy Eating : Think About How The Food Is Described
When browsing that menu get into the habit of looking at what certain things are called. Things that are called super, double, giant, mega sized, artery clogger ( I swear I ate at a place that had a burger called this) and other such kinds of words. Anytime a meal is described as being huge then you know it’s not going to be good for you.
Term Of Healthy Eating : Do You Want To Upgrade To A Foot Long?
Hell yes! Would be my reply to this question 99/100 in Subway back in the day. Now when you are getting a sub you have the chance to get a nice and healthy meal. But the mistake people make when getting a sub is that they think of the sub in terms of its length rather than the amount of calories that are inside the sub. It can be very possible to have a foot long sub that is far healthier for you than a six inch one. Just think before you order that just because the sub is small does not mean it is good for you.
Term Of Healthy Eating : Crispy And Glazed Is Not A Good Thing
There was a time when I would drool over an iced glazed donut or some nice and crispy curly fries. The terms crispy and glazed just makes things sound so tasty, doesn’t it? Well not when you think that as well as the food being crispy and glazed that your insides will also be when you eat this kind of food. These types of food are great… for the few minutes you are eating them, but the effect they have on your body is really not worth it.
Term Of Healthy Eating : Sometimes Appetizers Can Be A Meal!
Many restaurants offer these huge appetizers such as a while garlic bread for example. In any cases the appetizer is big enough to be a main meal in itself, but because of the word “appetizer” we think that it’s fine to eat that and then eat a huge meal shortly after! Remember you do not have to order an appetizer just because the restaurant is offering one.
