Getting fit is not an easy thing. Hey if it was we would all be Olympic athletes. The thing with fitness is that for some people hitting the gym for an hour or going for a run is just so mind numbingly boring. And that is fair enough, but just because you do not like the gym does not mean you need to let yourself go. Instead use a sport to get your self fit and have some fun in the process. Now I am not saying you have to play for an actual team, but you can go to training sessions or just organize games at the local sports centre, rec centre, park or where ever with your friends. Here are my top three sports for helping you stay fit and healthy.
Sports To Improve Your General Fitness: Basketball
Basketball is a really fast paced and high action sport that will result in you getting a really amazing cardio workout. One of the things that I love about Basketball is that by the end of a game the sweat will be pouring off you (if you have been hustling up and down the court) but you do not really feel it during the game. This is because like we said it’s so fast paced that you are so focused on the game you do not notice the amazing workout you are getting. As well as getting a great cardio workout your legs will also be getting more toned and stronger due to the running and jumping that you will be doing.
Basketball is cool in that you can play it with a large group of people where you can have a full 5 on 5 game. Or you and just a couple of buddies can play a smaller game. Try playing a full court game of basketball with just three other people for an amazing work out! It has been estimated that an hour of basketball can use up around 700 calories! Way more than just running on a treadmill for 20 minutes and its way more fun as well!
Sports To Improve Your General Fitness: Ice Hockey
Ice Hockey may seem like an odd choice, but its a fun sport and its also going to give your body an amazing workout as well. This is a sport that will make you use up a ton of energy, its fast paced, hard hitting and a great deal of fun. Ice Hockey really gives you a full body workout. You need to use your lower body to skate, but you also need to use your upper body to shoot, pass and tussle with other players.
After an hour of Ice Hockey you will certainly known you have had one heck of a workout. It is said that an hour of Ice Hockey burns off even more calories than Basketball!
Sports To Improve Your General Fitness: Tennis
Tennis is a fun sport that is perfect if you only have one other person to play it with. Few people realize just how demanding of a sport Tennis really is. Your body gets a pretty hardcore workout when you play a game of Tennis. Fist of all you get a great cardio workout. But your leg muscles and your upper body are also getting one severe work out. After a game of Tennis the next day you will be amazed at how “sore” your muscles will be from the fun and hard workout they went through on the Tennis court.
Tennis does not burn as many calories as Ice Hockey or Basketball, but it does work your muscles very hard indeed.
So if you have been wanting to get fitter, shed some pounds or get back into sports you loved in your high school days. Then look online for local Basketball or Ice Hockey teams, Tennis clubs. Or even just organize your own games with your buddies once or twice a week.
