Healthy eating is something that really did change my life. When I first started I was just so motivated. I planned all my meals, my cupboards were full of healthy food and I was in general pretty pumped about my new life style. Then I went on vacation with my family and realized I would be out and about most of the time. What on earth was I going to do? Would I give in and just eat whatever fast food my family ate? Nope I worked out a way to not totally destroy my diet. And for you guys who are always on the go, here are some tips to help you still eat healthy.
Start Your Day With A Big Healthy Breakfast
The first tip I want to give you guys is to make sure that before you go out for the day, make sure that you have one big bad mama jamma healthy breakfast. This breakfast needs to power you throughout the morning and get you to lunch. When on vacation or going out for the day, it can be so tempting to skip breakfast. Doing so makes those hot dogs the guy is selling on the corner look very appealing at 11.30am, but if you already have a full stomach then you can just walk on by! What I started to do was making my breakfast the night before and putting it in the fridge. This way I had time and energy to make my lunch for the day in the morning.
Pack A Healthy Lunch
The only way you can ensure that your lunch is just as healthy as your breakfast is to make it yourself. You may intend to eat something healthy when you are on the go, but there is always that chance there will be nothing healthy for you! I would make myself a nice healthy lunch like pasta salad, put in a tub and then put it in my bag. Pasta salad and beans and rice were my go to lunch menu as they were quick and easy to prepare and are very filling as well and not to mention they are also very tasty!
Prepare To Eat Out & Think Ahead About Healthy Options
At some point you will have to eat out. The key here is to not freak out or throw your healthy eating diet out the window. Instead use your best judgment to make the best out of your situation. The key here for me is portion control. Many places these days fill plates to the brim and this is how people overeat. Look for something healthy on the menu and if the portion is huge then do not feel pressured to eat it all. Just eat until you are full and either leave it or ask if any of the people you are with want to have your left overs. You can always ask the person serving you how big their portions are if portion size is a concern of yours.
Think Ahead & Count Your Calories
If you and the family are going away for the weekend, then one way you can ensure that you are not going to have to eat something unhealthy, is to get on your phone or your computer and look and see what kind of places there are to eat where you are going. Look and see if there is anywhere that does cater for people who like to eat healthy. Also if you do eat out take note of how many calories you have eating, write it down, save it on your phone or whatever. This way you can make sure when you get home you do not “forget” about those calories you had while you were out.
