Circuit training is one of my favorite ways to work out. You get a good fast paced cardio work out that is not just all about running on a treadmill. It’s a workout where you can really push yourself and make yourself work up a real sweat! Also one of the other reasons that I love circuit training is because of how much fun it is. Honestly I can do a 30 minute hard core circuit where I work my body to the max, but the time just zooms past as I am having so much fun. Some people are still not sold on circuit training so today I want to share with you some of the benefits of it.
What Is Circuit Training?
I guess I better explain what it is to you guys who do not know. Basically circuit training sees you set out a few stations, say 5. You pick five different exercises and then do one exercise for say a minute and once that minute is up move straight to the next one. The idea is you are working hard, fast and with very little rest in between each exercise.
Get A Great Workout In A Short Time
As I said in the intro, when I do a circuit it’s usually around 30 minutes. Now I am sure to some of you guys 30 minutes does not sound like a great deal of time at all. You can set up as many or as few stations as you like and then decide how many rounds and how long each exercise will last. So you can get a full body workout in just half an hour. And you can cater it to your needs so if you want to focus on your legs you can set your circuit up so its main focus is leg exercises.
It Mixes Cardio & Strength Training
Now you are not going to greatly build up your muscles by doing circuits, but circuit training does mix cardio and strength training very well. But the main focus of the circuit will be you burning fat and getting a good sweat. But as the circuit mixes things up so one minute you are doing jumping jacks the next you are doing bicep curls. You are mixing up different kinds of exercise which keeps things fresh, interesting and can make you get a whole body workout by the time you are done.
It Puts Your Metabolism Into Overdrive
Circuit training is predominantly high intensity interval training (HIIT). This is basically you doing big bursts of exercise with very little rest in between. This makes your metabolism burn like a furnace. To make it sound even better look at it like this. A 20-30 minute HIIT circuit can burn as many calories as an hour on the cross trainer! Work hard and work smart. You do not need to spend hours in the gym to get a good workout. Circuit training gets you a better workout in just a fraction of the time.
It’s Really Fun
Above all else, circuit training is a great deal of fun. And if you are a person who finds it hard to get motivated to work out because you do not enjoy it, then you simply must give circuit training a go. Each exercise is over before you know it and at the end of the day you are getting a great work out. If you want to have fun while getting some exercise then circuit training is the way to go.
