When people start to get serious about healthy eating, one of the first things that they will do is look at things like carbs, protein and fat. They try to figure out what are the foods that contain the right kind of this stuff for their bodies to ensure they are eating healthily. One thing that people tend to overlook are foods that are called superfoods. Now these are not foods that wear a cape and go around fighting crime in the evenings. These are foods that have been proven over the years to give your body all kinds of benefits. Read on to see a few examples of superfoods!
Superfood : Blueberries
Blueberries are an awesome superfood. You see not only are these little suckers absolutely delicious, they also have some pretty amazing health benefits as well. Blueberries have long been believed to promote brain health! How amazing is that? While blueberries are said to be the best if you are not keen or have a hard time getting them in your area then look for raspberries, cranberries or other fresh berries. Just do not go around your local park eating the berries of the bushes. 🙂
Superfood : Salmon
As well as being one of the most delicious sea creatures on the planet, salmon also is amazing for your body. “What are a few of the health benefits of salmon” I can hear you ask. Well, salmon is full to the brim with omega 3 fatty acids. Now I know that when you are trying to eat healthy you want to stay away from the word “fat”, but this is a good type of fat that your body needs. Just a few of the major benefits of this Omega 3 are that they are good for your blood pressure, your heart and it is known to help your brain function.
Superfood : Sardines
Ok so sardines are like a budget version of salmon. You see you are getting nearly as much of that Omega 3 goodness from eating sardines, but you are getting it at a much cheaper price. Also sardines are much more plentiful in our oceans all over the world so if over fishing is a concern of yours then you know you are doing a little bit for the planet. If you think salmon is too overpriced then pick up a can of sardines instead. Some brands of sardines keep the bones in them (ewwwwwww) but if you like this, then you are also getting a little calcium boost as well.
Superfood : Spinach
There is a good reason why Popeye would chug down a can of this to save the day! Just a single cup of spinach gives your body around double the needed dose of vitamin K and this is just the start. Spinach has lutein and zeaxanthin, these two helpful fellas help your eyes and fight off muscle degeneration. Spinach is also pretty jam packed with vitamin C. Honestly I could write a whole article about how good spinach is for you!
Superfood : Red Bell Peppers
You know how oranges are kind of the poster boy for your body getting a good dose of vitamin C. What, you did not? Well, no big deal, but the fact of the matter is, red bell peppers have nearly twice as much vitamin C as an orange. Vitamin C helps your body by keeping your blood vessels nice and strong, helping your skin and many other benefits as well. Red bell peppers have also been linked to being able to slow down the effects of arthritis.
