Online dating seems to be the way that many people start a relationship these days. For someone new to the online dating scene it can seem very weird and quite hard to fathom. There have been a number of success stories about people meeting the partner of their dreams online, but there are also a few horror stories as well. Today I have a few things that you should never in a million years do when you are online dating.
Online Dating Don’t: Lie!
There is no getting away from the fact that you will tell a couple of little white lies here and there to make yourself sound interesting, but do not lie about things like how tall you are, your age and even your weight. If you are let’s just say a little on the big side then do not be embarrassed, shout it out. At the end of the day you want a person to like you because of who you are. Also do not lie about what you like to do. If you have never been for a walk in the woods in your life then do not lie and say you love to do this. Try to be as honest as you possibly can!
Online Dating Don’t: Use An Old “Hot” Photo
Let’s face it we all have that one photo that we have kept for years because we look amazing in it! There is nothing wrong with that at all, but using an old photo is something that far too many people do on online dating sites. There is nothing wrong with taking a few new photos to make sure you look your absolute best, but make sure it’s a recent photo that you are posting.
Post Your Profile Without Checking It
Check your profile before you hit that activate button. Make sure that the spelling is good and that the picture is also fine. Do not worry about your grammar being 100 percent accurate, but at the very least you want to make sure that what you have written is first of all true and that it makes sense and it’s interesting for a person to read. If you can get a friend to give it a once over and see if she can see anything wrong with it.
Online Dating Don’t: Give Out Your Home Number
While there are many guys who are genuine and looking for a real relationship, let’s face it this is the internet and there are more than a few weirdo’s out there. If you put out your home phone number then it’s very easy for a person to then find your address. So be safe and just give out your cell phone number and then if a person does get to be a bit too much then just block their number.
Online Dating Don’t: Have Too Many Potential Suitors
You may feel like a kid in a candy store with all the guys that are out there, but be cool and do not try and juggle like ten guys all at the same time. As let’s face it you are doing this because you want to find a real relationship. So maybe email just a couple of guys at a time at the very most so you can get to know people and then you can see if you want to take things further. The more people you are emailing back and forth the harder it is to keep track of who is who.
