Ever since I was a kid and my dad would take me and my sister to McDonalds to get a Happy Meal after we had been swimming on a Saturday morning, I have been a lover of a good burger. As I got older my tastes would change to double cheeseburgers, bacon double cheeseburgers, XL burgers and pretty much all other types of burgers. Now I do not have to tell you that a burger is not the healthiest thing to eat in the world. But today I want to share with you guys a way to cure your burger cravings in a more healthier way. Let me say right now that his is not a 100 percent fat free burger. But it is lower in fat than the ones you get in your local fast food joint and it tastes amazing!
Healthier Burger Recipe
Step 1: First thing you want to do is go to the store and buy yourself some nice low fat and low in calories flat bread. This is what you are going to use for your burger buns. Now stop groaning and complaining about this. Using flat bread instead of regular burger buns is a great way to cut down on the calories in this burger.
Step 2: The kind of meat that you want to use here is extra lean ground beef. You can get this from your local butchers or super market. I prefer to use a butcher as I feel more confident they know what they are talking about. Again make sure it is extra lean ground beef that you are buying. It may cost a little more, but it’s got less of the bad stuff in it for you.
Step 3: A little tip for you guys here: when you are smashing down your extra lean ground beef into the shape of your burger patty before you cook it, get a few oats and put them into the beef. Trust me this is amazing and it does help give the burger an extra little kick.
Step 4: Grill the burger, again let me say that, grill the burger. The reason I have said this twice is to make sure that you are not deep frying the burger which is something I have recently learned that many people do. Anyway grill it until it’s cooked to your standards. One thing that I do like to do on occasion is sprinkle a little bit of spice on it as I am cooking it. Now this is personal preference, but when cooking your burger I think that turning it more frequently is the way to get the best flavor.
Step 5: Now is the time to cut your flat bread into the shape of your burger bun. Some people do this at the start, but I prefer to wait until my burger is cooked as this way you cut the bun to the perfect size for your burger patty.
Step 6: Pick your extras. Now I am a very boring person and I like my burgers plain, maybe a little bit of lettuce on there, but most of the time I just like the meat and a little bit of spice on there. But you guys feel free to add some lettuce, tomatoes or onions to your burger to give it that extra kick if you want.
Step 7: Eat and enjoy!
