My partner is one of those people who seems to get caught up in the hype each time a new iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy is released. Even though the one he has is barely a year old, he deems it obsolete and gets to work trying to find a way he can get the new one. I on the other hand am a bit more methodical when looking for the best phone for me and like to think things through logically before I sign up for anything. I want to share with you some advice for how you can walk out of a cell phone store without signing up for something you did not really want!
Look At The Contract
It can be so easy when you go into a cell phone store to not look at how much you are going to be paying or how long the contract is. You just look at the awesome looking phone! The thing is many people end up with things on their phone contracts that they simply do not need. Do you need to pay an extra ten bucks a month for unlimited minutes? What’s that you text more than you call, then do not pay it! Make sure you know exactly what you are paying for and if you are paying for something you will not use then see if you can take it out or look at a different contract.
By being strong I am talking about dealing with the sales people in cell phone stores! They will pounce on you pretty much as soon as you walk in the store and they will bombard you with talk of how you can upgrade, get the best new phone and all this other stuff and before you know it you are singing up for something that you do not need, want and do not understand. Tell them you are just browsing and you will shout them over if you need any help.
What Does The Phone Do
Me and my partner were in a major cell phone chain a few months back and he was very excited about this phone that had a very powerful camera. It was like he wanted this phone because of how good this camera was and the sales person was on him in an instant telling all about this amazing HD camera. Then I pointed out to my partner that he has never took a picture in the whole time I have known him! Phones have all kinds of features these days and as tempting as it may be to get the latest and greatest model, do not buy one for “new and exciting” features that you will never in a million years use. Think about what you want the phone to do. If you just want it to make calls, texts and check in on Facebook then you do not need the newest and most expensive phone!
Get As Much For As Little
The cell phone industry is very competitive and as much as the sales people can be sharks, there are actually many great deals to be had. Many cell phone stores are offering some great things free when you get a new phone. I have seen TV’s, games consoles, tablets, laptops and even cold hard cash thrown in with cell phones these days. There are many different cell phone companies who want your money. So shop around and go for the one who gives you the most for the least!
