My kids are like the majority of other kids around the world these days. If they do not have some kind of device with a screen in front of them or are sitting with a controller in their hands, then they are “bored”. Well today I want to share with you guys a few fun activities to do with your kids that do not involve a phone or some kind of video game console. And also these activities will not make you go bankrupt either!
Play Board Games
Now some kids may be reluctant to do this, after all how can a board game compare to a Playstation? But I bet after their initial reluctance that they will be having a great time and getting very competitive. You really cannot go wrong with the classics like Monopoly, Clue or The Game Of Life. My boys at first were adamant that board games were “boring” but after ten minutes of Clue, they were hooked.
Play A Sport
This is a great way to not only spend some fun and quality time together, but also it will get you and the kids some good exercise. The sport really does not matter. It can be a game of basketball in your front yard, a game of tennis at the local park or maybe even a family fun game of touch football at the side of your house. The sport does not matter, it’s just all about having fun with your kids. And there are very few things that kids find more fun than beating their parents and some kind of sporting activity.
Write A Story
I am very big into trying to get my kids creative juices flowing and one thing that we enjoy to do together is writing a story. One thing that goes down well are “openings” this is where I will give them a line like “Jack walked into the dark room and saw a small wooden box, slightly open on the floor” and then they have to write a story around that one sentence. Another fun thing we like to do is where we each take a turn saying a part of a story and then the next person needs to carry the story on.
Most supermarkets will have these easy to use cookie baking sets that most of the time will have some kind of license on them, be it Spider-Man, My Little Pony or whatever. These are a fun way to spend half an hour with your kids. One thing that we like to do is bake the cookies and then see who can decorate them the best. Sure most of these cookies taste absolutely terrible, but it’s still a fun and relatively cheap way to have fun with your kids.
Go To The Park
There is not a kid who does not love to go to the park! The cool thing about this is that you can take a ball, picnic or whatever and make a real day of it. Also if you are lucky your area might have a park that also has things like swings and climbing frames for the kids. Just do not get stuck on the climbing frame like I did trying to impress your kids! 😀
