I had a major addiction to pizza. I swear I could have eaten pizza every night of the week a couple of years ago! And actually I am ashamed to say that some weeks I would have it 3 or 4 times. I loved pizza and what is there not to love about pizza……. they billion calories that it contains that is what! As much as I loved pizza I knew that if my new healthy eating regime was going to happen I had to do something about mu pizza addiction. I have since learned a few neat and fun ways to keep my love of pizza alive, but still fit in with my new healthy eating lifestyle.
English Muffin Pizza
This one is a classic and the one that pizza addicts like myself turn to in our hour of need. I like to put a sprinkle of low fat cheese with a couple of tomatoes and I am set. These despite their very small size are actually incredibly filling and while they taste amazing I also love the fact I know they contain a fraction of the calories of my traditional pizza from the take out joint down the street.
Mini Mexican Pizzas
Now I have eaten a ton of these and each and every time I do I am sure I am cheating on my diet. They not only taste amazing, but these mini Mexican pizzas also look amazing. They look just like real mini pizzas. The fact that these are full to the brim of whole grains, fiber and protein means that they are actually not bad for you at all!
Whole Wheat Pizza
This is now my go to pizza when one of the “fake” options simply will not do! You need to make or in my case have my wife make some whole wheat pizza dough. Its actually not that hard to do at all and you can find the recipe online. Then just makes sure you are using only a small amount of low fat cheese and healthy toppings as well and you are set. I made a whole wheat pizza with low fat cheese lettuce and tomatoes and gave it to a buddy and he never even noticed the dough was not traditional pizza dough. The whole wheat pizza may take a bit of effort, but its well worth it!
Paleo Meatball Pizza
Now I am a big fan of the paleo meatballs that are pretty easy to make and are gluten free by the way. I like to make these then mash them up sprinkle a tiny wee bit of goat cheese and chopped up lettuce on them and then spread them on some nice and healthy flatbread.
Low Calorie Micro Meals!
I will admit that sometimes I just crave the taste of pizza and do not want to spend the time to make a healthier alternative. My go to food in a situation like this is a nice quick and easy microwave vegetable lasagna meal. There are many different companies who make micro vegetable lasagna, but my preference is the brand Amy’s Tofu Vegetable Lasagna. It only takes a few minutes to make, is cheap and its only a little over 300 calories and it gets rid of those pizza cravings fast!
