When eating healthy I am a very firm believer in that it’s important to have a cheat day. A day when you allow yourself to eat something that you really love. And even eating the od “snack” when you are on a healthy eating kick as long as it’s in moderation is fine. But there are some items on the fast food menu that if you are trying to stick to a healthy diet you should avoid. Just for fun here are some of the high calorie offenders from different fast food places from around the world.
Burger King: Oreo Sundae Shake
Calorie Count: 980
Ah Burger King, my fast food joint of choice and I would order a bacon double cheeseburger which was unhealthy enough, but I would also add this shake filled with Oreos and topped off with strawberry ice cream as well. This is a tasty treat make no mistake about that, but as well as having nearly a thousand calories it also has 21 grams of saturated fat which is actually nearly twice the recommended daily amount.
Outback Steakhouse: Aussie Cheese Fries
Calorie Count: 2,140
My partner would eat a wheel if it was covered in cheese! This huge plate, dish or perhaps even a garbage can lid is full with (I have to admit) tasty fries coated, covered in cheese! Now to be fair these are intended as something you would order for the whole table, but my partner would eat a whole portion of these to himself! And I am sure he is not the only one. The huge amount of calories that this contains is more than you should eat all day!
McDonalds: Chocolate Triple Thick Shake 32oz
Calorie Count: 1,160
Ok so I actually live in the UK and our McDonalds have taken their thick shakes off the menu, but I know they are still available in many other parts of the world. While my kids were very sad I was actually glad. You see these may be the tastiest milk shakes you will ever consume, but when you think that they pack in a huge over a thousand calories it’s just crazy. My kids would often feel sick about an hour after one of these! The calorie count is already bad, but when you consider most people will have this along with a burger or something else!
Applebee’s: Quesadilla Burger
Calorie Count: 1,440
I would love to see the look on someone’s face who has never seen one of these monster burgers before when it is put down in front of them. This is pretty much the main meal at Applebee’s and it packs in the better part of 1,500 calories. This bacon cheeseburger is not only bursting with fat, it also has double the recommend daily intake of sodium in it as well. This is one burger that may taste great when you eat it, but an hour or two later you are going to feel real sluggish!
Starbucks: Hazelnut Signature Hot Chocolate
Calorie Count: 600
How many of us have grabbed one of these bad boys on our morning commute to work! While this may be a great pick me up an a cool way to start the day. The fact that this contains 600 calories which is about a quarter of what is recommend you have for the whole day! And this is just a drink! Save your calories for something that is actually going to fill you up.
