Eating healthy is awesome. It not only helps you stay in shape and look better on the outside, but it’s also so much better for your body and it helps you to live a longer and healthier life. Still many of us from time to time do like to spoil ourselves with an unhealthy meal or a unhealthy snack and in moderation this is fine, but today I have come up with a list of things that even on your “cheat” days you want to make sure you are keeping away from.
Absolutely Unhealthy Food : Stick Margarine
Now despite me being an advocate of healthy eating for a few years now, there are still something’s that just blow my mind when it comes to how bad they are for you. Stick Margarine is one of those things. As a kid my grandmother would lather up our morning toast with stick margarine and me and my sister loved it! But now as an adult I have come to learn that it is loaded to the brim with trans fats and that just a single tablespoon can contain as much 100 calories!!!! I shudder when I think of how many calories just two slices of toast must have had when I was a kid. There are plenty of healthy and low fat alternatives out there so use one of them instead.
Absolutely Unhealthy Food : Soda
As a guy who used to have a pretty major Diet Coke addiction I think I am more than qualified to spread the dangers that soda does to our bodies. Even diet and fat free soda is loaded with calories and all these hidden extra ingredients that can lead to your waistline getting bigger and bigger and your teeth taking a pounding as well. At the end of the day, soda is simply not worth the damage that it does to your body. A nice glass of fresh water or some good ol OJ is the best way to quench your thirst.
Absolutely Unhealthy Food : Whole Milk
A buddy at the gym would say until he was blue in the face that I should be drinking whole milk. When I told him about how whole milk is just full to the brim with saturated fat and that it raised bad cholesterol and has been proven in cases to clog your arteries he changed his mind. Also whole milk has way more calories than low fat. So do your heart and your waist line a favor by ditching the whole meal for some low fat, skimmed or even soy milk. Cutting out whole milk is an easy step in making your diet healthier.
Absolutely Unhealthy Food : Various Toaster Pastries
We live in a fast paced world. A world where people when they wake up in the morning want their breakfast as quick as possible. This is what gave birth to what I call the toaster pastry craze that we have going on right now. Toaster pastries are everywhere these days and they are about as good for you as just chowing down on a bag of sugar. Even the ones that are say strawberry flavored have next to no real fruit in them! These may be a convenient way to start your day, but they are also starting your day in the worst way imaginable. A standard two pack of these can have as much as ten teaspoons of sugar!
Absolutely Unhealthy Food : Hot Dogs
For some once they know how a Hot Dog is made is all that is required for them to avoid this world wide favorite fast food snack. But if you need a little more nudging then let me tell you that on average 80 percent of the calories that are contained in a regular sized Hot Dog come from fat! Hot Dogs were one of the hardest snacks for me to give up even when I knew how bad they were for me. So I kind of trick myself by having a Turkey Dog instead.
