Here we are with our second part of the A to Z of weight loss. Hopefully you can have a little fun and maybe pick up a little bit of information that will help you reach your weight loss goals!
I: Information Overload
There is just a ton of information out there about losing weight. There seems to be some new kind of diet each day that is the new and best thing in the world when it comes to losing weight! One piece of advice that I want to give you guys is that when you are starting to lose weight, start simple with just one diet and see if that works for you. Do not take a little bit from this diet and a little from another! Make it as simple as possible for yourself.
J: Joining A Weight Loss Group
While some people are too shy to joining a weight loss groups. The fact is that the numbers show that these weight loss groups do not only help people lose weight, but they do something that many people struggle with and that is keeping the weight off. I have lost weight and put it on many times and it was not until I joined a weight loss group that I managed to keep it off.
K: Know About Food
In order to lose weight you must take an interest in the food that you are putting into your body. If you want to be serious about losing weight then you need to learn what is good for your body and what is bad for your body. You do not need to know the nutritional values of every food item under the sun, but at least know about the things you like to eat. Know what is good and what is bad and you will have a much easier time losing weight.
L: Learn What Works And What Does Not
All our bodies are different! For example one week while I was on my diet I had this candy bar that was called a Curley Wurly. I had it because a fellow member told me this was the candy bar I should have when I want a tasty snack as she eats them and they are fine. Well I had a couple in the week and I did not lose any weight. I did not gain weight, but I did not lose any either. The only thing I did different was the darn Curly Wurly’s! But I learned that my body clearly would not lose weight that good if I kept on eating them. Learn what you can and cannot eat! If you put on weight one week then think about what you did differently.
M: Make Your Own Meals
The one sure way to know exactly what you are putting in your body is to make your meals from scratch. While this may sound like a headache for some of you guys. By making your own food you are in full control of how many calories it contains.
N: Never Give Up
Losing weight is not easy, it’s freaking hard! I have lost weight and put it all back on far more times than I am willing to admit to right here. But the one thing you need to do is just dust yourself off and try again. Never give up! Because one of these days you will find that right diet that works for you and will enable you to lose and keep weight off.
One of the things I would do when I would have my “cheat” day is that I would overeat and pretty much just pig out. Overeating is one of the main causes of people putting on weight. There are ways around overeating such as putting your food on smaller plates and making a meal then cutting it in half to have some today and the rest tomorrow. Just make sure that even the good food you are eating that you are not overeating.
P: Plan Your Meals!
Planning your meals is a key way to make sure that you are not going running to the vending machine at work. When I got really serious about losing weight I would plan my week’s meals out in advance. I am talking breakfast, lunch and dinner. I would know what I needed to buy on my weekly grocery shopping and then I would prepare it in advance. Planning and preparing your meals lessens the chance of you eating snacks or ordering take out.
Q: Quitting Junk Food
There is no getting away from the fact that junk food and diets do not mix, but if there is something that you really love then if you save yourself up enough calories in the week then allow yourself a treat once and a while. Eating the foods you like in moderation and making sure you are counting the calories is a way to make your diet seem less of a chore.
R: Read Labels
You cannot just go into your grocery store and buy things that have diet or low fat written on them and just assume that they are going to help you lose weight. You need to learn how to read the information on the back or the side of the label and see what is really in these “good for you” foods.
