I have been around gyms for years and it’s something that I genuinely enjoy to do. Of course the health benefits that I am getting from pushing myself in the gym are great, but I am lucky in that I actually enjoy to work out. With that being said today I want to share with you guys a few simple and easy to follow tips that when applied can make sure that your time in the gym is being spent on getting fitter and not being wasted! These tips are for you guys who are like me and really like to work out on your own.
Gym Time Is Work Out Time!
One thing that drives me crazy in the gym is when I want to use a machine and someone else is on it, but rather than using it (which would be fair enough by the way and I would be more than happy to do a different exercise) they are just sitting on it having a chat or, even worse, sitting on it watching TV! The gym is not the place to socialize or watch TV, you can do both of these things any time. Your time in the gym should be spent exercising. Some people spend 2 hours in the gym, but I bet you they are not working out for those 2 hours. I am in the gym for an hour at most, but that hour you can bet I am working as hard as I can.
Have Workout Plan In Your Mind
Before I step foot into my gym I already know what kind of workout I am going to be doing for the day. I am not saying I have all my exercises mapped out as that would be hard to do as I have no control of what machines or equipment other members are using, but at the very least I will now if I am working a specific body part of if I am having a cardio day. By knowing what you are doing before you go in, it means you can spend less time thinking about what to do and more time exercising.
No Standing Still In The Gym
Hey, we all need to take a breather every now and again when we are working hard. But do not just stand there drinking your water. Instead walk around the gym as you are catching your breath. Or if you are on a cardio machine, cross trainer, for example, if you need to rest, rather than jumping off it. Just put the machine down to its lowest setting and go slow for a few seconds maybe even a minute. Either way it’s better than just stopping all together. Remember the time you spent in the gym is for working not for resting, the rest comes after the workout!
Put Your Headphones On While Exercising
I am not an anti-social person at all. But gym time is my own time and it should be the same for you. By wearing headphones you are getting two benefits that can help aid your workout. First of all people are less likely to come and distract you by chit chatting if they see you have headphones on. And also having music that you actually like is a great way to motivate you and push yourself just a little harder than by listing to whatever garbage is on the gym radio.
